Wisdom Panel now offers 25+ behavior insights – more than any other dog DNA test on the market.

For more than two decades, Wisdom Panel has helped pet parents uncover their dog’s unique stories. Now, by revealing genetic links to behaviors ranging from play habits to vet visit anxiety, Wisdom Panel is giving dog parents actionable, scientific insights to strengthen their bond with their pets.

“Dogs can’t tell us how they feel or why they do what they do, but their DNA can help fill in the gaps,” said Becca Chodroff Foran, PhD, Senior Director of R&D at Wisdom Panel. “By combining statistical modeling with genetic, demographic, and clinical data, we are delivering more individualized, reliable predictions that move beyond guesswork and into true personalized care for pets.”

Science-Backed Insights for Everyday Training and Care

The newly added behavioral tendencies help dog parents better understand, train, and support their pets’ daily needs. Wisdom Panel now screens for these 13 additional tendencies:

  • Social & Play Styles: Plays with toys, plays with dogs, boisterous, and bores quickly while playing.

  • Instinctual Drives: Retrieving instinct, focuses on tasks, and chases prey.

  • Everyday Quirks: Seeks constant activity, howls to music, and licks people.

  • Environmental Responses: Hesitant at the veterinarian, hesitant when groomed, and sneaks out open doors.

Unmatched Scientific Scale

Wisdom Panel scientists have analyzed data from over 5 million pets, establishing the largest pet genetic health study. Drawing on one of the world’s most extensive canine research datasets, including DNA insights, clinical data, and more than 100,000 responses to a validated canine behavioral questionnaire, Wisdom Panel’s advanced algorithms uncover connections between genetics and real-world factors such as age. A snapshot of the findings reveals fascinating trends:

  • Game on: 56.7% of dogs are genetically predisposed to enjoy playing with other dogs.

  • Hard pass: 31.4% show genetic tendencies to feel hesitant at the vet.

  • Stealth mode: 20.1% have a natural tendency to sneak out open doors.

  • Pump up the volume: 5.1% possess the genes to be more likely to howl along to music.

All 25 behavioral insights are now included in the Wisdom Panel™ Premium Dog DNA Collection Kit.

With the ability to detect 430+ breeds, screen for 270+ genetic health risks, and analyze over 25 behavioral traits, Wisdom Panel is the most comprehensive and accurate dog DNA test available.
