INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MN – October 13, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –

Appliance Depot, the family-owned appliance retailer in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, has expanded its lineup of furnaces and heating systems for Twin Cities homeowners, adding nine ICP gas furnace models ahead of the heating season. The additions, listed on the company’s website in late September, bring its furnace selection to 13 models that range from 40,000 to 110,000 BTU of input and from 80 percent to 98 percent AFUE.

According to the product listings, the new units, made by International Comfort Products, the manufacturer behind the Heil and Day & Night brands, include seven 80 percent AFUE single-stage furnaces from 45,000 to 110,000 BTU and two 96 percent AFUE furnaces rated at 40,000 and 100,000 BTU. Cabinet widths run from 14 to 24 inches, and each unit can be set in an upflow, downflow, or horizontal position, which the listings say lets an installer work with the ductwork already in place. The furnaces use ECM blower motors with capacities from three to five tons and hot-surface ignition with no standing pilot light, and they run on natural gas and can be converted to propane. The company lists them as new units with a manufacturer warranty, ordered from the manufacturer with an estimated lead time of three to five business days, and available for local pickup at the store.

The expansion builds on a heating catalog that already included Goodman furnaces rated up to 98 percent AFUE, boilers from IBC and Burnham, Reznor and GG Series garage unit heaters, and GE and Bradford White water heaters. In all, the heating collection on the company’s website listed 92 products in early October, among them 13 boilers, eight garage heaters and 57 water heaters.

Appliance Depot sells this equipment the same way it sells kitchen and laundry appliances. The homeowner selects and purchases the unit, and installation is handled by a heating contractor of the homeowner’s choosing. The company fills online orders for Minnesota addresses, according to its website, which also publishes a list of heating and appliance service technicians and handymen it recommends in the area.

“A furnace is a major appliance, and we sell it the way we sell a range or a dryer,” said Ron Zeien, owner of Appliance Depot. “The homeowner picks the unit that fits the house, we bring it in, and their installer puts it in. Most people don’t know they can do that.”

The listings point to a handful of specifications that determine whether a replacement furnace fits a home. BTU input describes how much fuel energy a furnace burns in an hour, while AFUE, or annual fuel utilization efficiency, is the standardized rating of how much of that fuel is converted into heat over a heating season. Cabinet width matters in tight utility rooms and closets; the upflow, downflow, or horizontal configuration has to match the direction of the existing ductwork, and fuel type needs to be settled in advance because the ICP units ship for natural gas and are converted where a property runs on propane. The sizing a house needs, the venting, and any fuel conversion are determined and carried out by a qualified heating contractor at the home.

“The installer works out the sizing for the house,” Zeien said. “What the homeowner needs to know is the width of the space the unit sits in and whether the home runs on natural gas or propane. With those, it is a quick conversation.”

Replacing a furnace also means disposing of the old one. Units removed during a replacement can be recycled through J.R.’s Appliance Disposal, the recycling business the Zeien family started in 1988. J.R.’s accepts furnaces, air conditioners, household appliances, and electronics by drop-off at the same site or by pickup across the metro area. The company reports that the recycling center takes in a large number of furnaces each winter and many air conditioners each summer.

Appliance Depot was founded in 1955 by the Zeien family and is run today by Ron Zeien and three of his siblings, with a third generation now working in the business. The store has operated at its current location since 1978 and sells new, scratch-and-dent, and reconditioned appliances, appliance parts, and heating and cooling equipment, with appliance delivery, hookup, and haul-away services for customers across the Twin Cities. Its showroom carries brands including GE, Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, Hotpoint, Magic Chef, and Goodman.
