ispace technologies U.S., Inc. (“ispace-U.S.”), the Colorado-based American entity of ispace, inc. (“ispace”), today confirmed it has been selected for NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services 2 (CLPS 2) Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) master contract. The selection makes ispace-U.S. eligible to compete for future NASA task orders as a prime contractor, providing end-to-end payload transportation and lunar surface operations using the company’s ULTRA lander and future lander designs.

“We’re grateful to NASA for this opportunity,” said Elizabeth Kryst, CEO of ispace-U.S. “Over the past six years, our Colorado team has built a strong foundation with real engineering, integration, and flight operations experience behind it. CLPS 2 gives us the opportunity to compete in leading those missions for NASA’s lunar science and Moon Base objectives in the years ahead.”

ispace-U.S.’s ULTRA lander program is supported by the company’s Denver, Colorado, headquarters, which houses spacecraft development, assembly, integration and test (AIT), and mission operations capabilities, including personnel across engineering, production, test, and flight operations. The company has invested more than $200 million in lunar mission development and supporting technical capabilities.

The ULTRA lander program also leverages lunar lander development, testing, and flight operations experience from ispace’s Japan location, which has flown two lunar missions to date.

“ispace-U.S. welcomes the opportunity to support NASA’s Moon Base Program with our ULTRA lander,” said Bretton Alexander, EVP of Business Development at ispace-U.S. “ULTRA offers NASA reliable and affordable access to any location on the lunar surface for science and technology demonstration missions.”

CLPS 2 is a follow-on to the CLPS 1.0 IDIQ contract, under which NASA has issued task orders to commercial providers for robotic lunar delivery missions since 2018. The new contract vehicle includes a 10-year base ordering period with a 5-year option period, with a not-to-exceed contract ceiling of $10 billion. Selection onto the IDIQ does not itself constitute a funded mission; ispace-U.S. will compete for individual task orders as NASA issues them. Under CLPS 1.0, ispace-U.S. has supported NASA lunar delivery missions as a subcontractor. CLPS 2 provides the opportunity to compete directly as a prime contractor on future task orders.
